Hotels and restaurants that hold tourism licences in Abu Dhabi can now welcome pets on their premises. The change follows amendments to the emirate’s animal‑control regulations that govern public venues. The Department of Municipalities and Transport announced updates to Chairman’s Decision No. ???.
Under the new rules, venues must earmark pet‑friendly zones. Preference is given to outdoor areas such as terraces, balconies, and patios, although indoor spaces can also be allocated if health standards, animal welfare, and guest comfort are maintained.
"The changes align with Abu Dhabi’s commitment to inclusivity while preserving high standards in hospitality." – Fahad Ali Alshehhi, Acting Executive Director of the Municipal Services Operations Support Sector.
The revised regulations allow establishments to admit companion animals, including cats and dogs, subject to compliance with specific regulatory and operational requirements. Participation is optional, and operators decide based on facilities, clientele, and capacity.
This move supports Abu Dhabi’s ambition to remain a leading global destination and bolsters its standing in international rankings, including its reputation as the most livable city in the Middle East and North Africa.
